Ioan Viorel Boldureanu:  Marin Preda’s The Horse Short Story– An Ethnological Reading.

The author proposes an “ethnological reading” of the short story The Horse, written and published by Marin Preda in his early years as a writer — one of the greatest contemporary Romanian writers who died in 1980. this type of reading is an alternative /complementary one to other possible ones.

The ethnological reading is performed on the text variant published in the 1948 debut edition and it highlights the underlying elements that structure the in-depth mythical-magical-archaic significances of the text. The current approach emphasizes the thesis that in the case of masterpieces, the discovery of mythemes and cultural archetypes, bearing their original significances, in done spontaneously, this being the result that also the clearest proof of a great creative force of an undoubtable artistic expression, which justifies the masterpiece regime of this text.
