Alexandra-Catrina Ciornei :  The Junimea Society and the German Model

Junimea has had, as it is well known, a decisive role in the process of synchronizing the Romanian realities to the European cultural spirit. For the literary Society of  Junimea, the Germanity has functioned as a genuine reference system. Like very many Romanian intelectuals of that time, the members of Junimea had attended schools in countries with an important cultural tradition: Germany, Austria, France, Belgium or Spain. The assimilation of the universal culture and the cultivation of the German models become one of Junimea’s value criteria.
