Dumitru Tucan:

Dan Lungu and the Fascination with Reality

This essay outlines the evolution of Dan Lungu’s prose, as the author is one of the most important Romanian contemporary writers. Initially under the impulse of an interesting attempt at mirroring the narrative of the unprocessed perception (see his first short story volume Chetă la flegmă), the prose of Dan Lungu will later be more faithful to ‘ideas’ and to ‘demonstration’ (see Raiul Găinilor, Băieţi de gaşcă, Sînt o babă comunistă). At present, the prose of Dan Lungu is an attempt at presenting the inflictions of the Romanian mentality. It is indeed a ‘sociologic’ prose, a fascinating and comprehensive narrative of the contemporary Romanian reality.
