Welcome on the website of the Faculty of Letters and History!
The
Faculty of Letters and History is one of the largest in the University
of the West Timisoara and it represents a nucleus of humanistic
disciplines, what the German academic tradition calls “Geisteswissenschaft”.
In a university with a classical profile, our faculty can be regarded as
a supporting pillar due to its complexity, tradition and the value of
the academics teaching here.
The
Faculty of Letters and History is one of the four prestigious faculties
of this profile in the country but it also has numerous partnerships
with similar faculties abroad.
Our
faculty offers the appropriate academic climate both for didactic
formation and for a future research career. Therefore we organize
Master’s programs and doctoral programs and we benefit from several
grants offered to us as a result of national competitions.
In the
western part of the country, we are the most important faculty with this
profile, its basic characteristic being its interdisciplinarity and
multiculturalism. Timisoara is a region famous for the good cooperation
among several ethnicities: Romanian, Hungarian, German, Serbian,
Croatian, Bulgarian, Jewish, etc. There is a close cooperation also with
Romanians living in the Serbian Banat, in Hungary, Moldova and Ukraine,
many young people from these regions studying in our faculty.
Famous
personalities from western universities are “doctor honoris causa” of
our University, following the suggestions of the Faculty of Letters and
History. We also benefit from the presence of foreign visiting
professors teaching international languages as well as from the
existence of libraries such as the Austrian Library, the British Council
Library, the Library of the French Cultural Center, etc.
Our
faculty is a partner in very important European programs and has many
resources for students and teachers within the Erasmus, Socrates, Tempus
and Leonardo programs.
Our
scientific enthusiasm is proved by the numerous international congresses
and national symposia organized by our faculty as well as by the editing
of an impressive number of scientific papers and volumes (books,
articles, courses) by the teachers working in the Faculty of Letters and
History.
We
invite all our guests to join our universe are we are convinced nobody
will regret this step!

the
Dean of the Faculty of Letters and History
