        The
Spanish Section was founded in 1995 with the support of Prof. Dr. Ileana
Oancea, a celebrated Romance linguist. This section forms, together with
the French and Italian sections, the Department of Romance Languages.

        Meant to
train specialists in the Spanish language and literature, the sections
offers its students compulsory, elective and additional courses. As a
minor subject, in the first year Spanish is taught in the form of the
history of the Spanish language, Spanish literature, Spanish culture and
civilization and practical courses. The second year continues with
courses and seminars in Spanish literature and practical courses. The
third year adds a course in the methodology of teaching Spanish in
schools. In the fourth year two elective courses are added to the two
compulsory practical courses: one of Spanish for special purposes and
one of Latin American literature. After the four years, students will
receive a Bachelor’s degree, with a major qualification in Romanian,
French, English, German, History, Journalism or Library Studies and a
        minor qualification in Spanish.

        The last
years have witnessed  an increased interest in Spanish culture. Many
students have obtained study grants in Spain, while some of the teachers
working in this sections have been visiting professors at universities
        in Mexico and Spain.
