This
specialization is meant for the graduates of the module of
terminology and translation theories, which has been operational for
a few years in the Faculty of Letters and which includes the 3rd
year students of the sections of French and English.
The students
involved in this program have the opportunity of improving the theoretical and
practical knowledge they acquired during the previous years and, in the end, are
awarded a diploma attesting their quality as translators and
terminologists.
The subjects
studied in this program aim at building the students’ ability to translate
specialized texts (especially legal and technical texts), to elaborate technical
documents and correspondence, as well as to create a data basis in a particular
field as support for compiling dictionaries or for drawing up other documents
necessary in the specialized translation. It must be mentioned that the study of
terminology and terminography as fundamental disciplines represents a novelty in
the university education. Terminology and terminography have been introduced
into the curriculum of the most important Romanian universities only recently,
but they are regarded as relatively new disciplines even at European level. The
data bases are built by means of the computer, computer science being a
compulsory subject in this specialization. The curriculum for this section is
