The Faculty of
Letters and History has a material and logistic support at European
standards , offering students several specific laboratories (informatics, modern
languages, phonetics, terminotics, multimedia, VIFAX, etc) and other
multimedia materials.
All laboratories
are connected to the Internet and the Central University Library
database but, because of the lack of space and staff, access is permitted only
during classes, with the approval and under the supervision of the teacher.
The entire
computer network of the Faculty of Letters and History is administered by a
server that is controlled and handled by the Center of Communication and
Information, director: Marinel Iordan (room 150 B).
1. The
Terminotics Laboratory (room 043 C)

was financed by
the European Community in a Tempus project in cooperation with Universite
Haute-Bretagne, Rennes, France, in 2001
-
is destined
especially to the Translation and Terminology module of the French and English
Departments who participated in the Tempus project, as well as to elective
courses of computer editing and archaeometry

it has 10
computers, 1 server, printer, scanner, videoprojector, graphic table, etc.

The Informatics Laboratory (room 150 A)

is
financed 50% by the Central University Library, 50% by the Faculty of Letters
and History

is
destined to students in English and Library Studies for specific activities

10 new computers, 1 server, audio equipment, specialized software

The VLC Multimedia Laboratory (Virtual Language Classroom) (room 327)

was
financed by the University of the West Timisoara in 2002

destined to language learning and phonetics, as well as to practical courses
of language and civilization of the Romance Languages Department

requires
advanced informatics knowledge and the use of a special didactic software

computers, audio equipment, videorecorder, TV, specialized software

The VIFAX Laboratory (room 043 A)

was
financed by the European Community in 1997

is
destined to teaching French through the VIFAX method (using multimedia
materials, text, image, sound) and is used by the students of the French
department

computers, 5 videorecorders, 5 TVs, printer, scanner.
